Online education

Do you use the internet for learning? What do you mostly use? Well I think we mostly use audio-visual tools to learn online more than reading. Most of us just write the subject matter in youtube and watch what they have. Is there other ways? Yes, there are tons of other professional ways that most of us are not even aware of that I think this kind of lack of knowledge is very disappointing (maybe I should carry out a survey). Thus, let us talk about some online material such as webinars and courses for free =)

Webinars are conferences but on the web, just like it’s name refers to. You get to see the presenters, listen, ask questions as the presentation continues, and even get a certificate with your name on it. If you miss it don’t worry there are mostly recorded for you to watch at there site. Here is one site I frequently visit (http://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/webinars)

How about a course? I found this new site named Coursera, ıt gives teaches lesson using videos, form discussions, and assignments with of course due dates. I am trying out one its courses right now this is my first week and I have so many assignments. Here is the link for you to check out (https://www.coursera.org/)

Mobile learning, or “m-learning”, offers modern ways to support learning process through mobile devices, such as handheld and tablet computers, MP3 players, smartphones and mobile phones.

It presents unique attributes compared to conventional e-learning: personal, portable, collaborative, interactive, contextual and situated, it emphasizes “just-in-time-learning” as instruction can be delivered anywhere and at anytime through it. Moreover, it is an aid to formal and informal learning and thus holds enormous potential to transform the delivery of education and training.

Second Life

Published May 18, 2014 by Esra

This is a virtual world that gives you a chance to do many things you could do in the real world but just slightly more in a fantasy loaded fun way. You start by downloading the program and selecting an avatar that will represent you in the…Well, game like environment. I don’t like to write about how you use something in my reflections because I feel like I’m just filling in spots that I think might look better while full, so I will just write about my feelings about it. Second life has a lot of advantages the first thing that comes to my mind is it is fun. I don’t think I could be a teacher who could torture her students with silence in her class (I just love it when I see them smiling and speaking) as long as it goes as I planed so I like things in the fun way and second life gives me this chance as I could ask all my students to meet up in a place I prepared especially for them where I could have them listen as I teach, work in groups, have them use the internet and learn at the same time while they are learning. It’s just great for this technology era and a great way to have many things done outside the class while you get more time in class (I always have this time problem). They could also practice speaking with other players and I could even get them to do little presentations while they put their avatar in their place I’m sure it woud be less stressful.

PREZI

Prezi is a great way to make presentations. It is interesting as it uses the advantage of visuals and many other tools such as zooming in and out as you proceed with the next slayt. You can embed youtube videos, pictures, graphics and etc. It has many fronts and colors to use for your interest as well. Theonly negative thing about it is that we need an internet connection to save or edit the presentation and it may give problems to even do these if you have a bad connection.
