Second Life

Published May 18, 2014 by Esra

This is a virtual world that gives you a chance to do many things you could do in the real world but just slightly more in a fantasy loaded fun way. You start by downloading the program and selecting an avatar that will represent you in the…Well, game like environment. I don’t like to write about how you use something in my reflections because I feel like I’m just filling in spots that I think might look better while full, so I will just write about my feelings about it. Second life has a lot of advantages the first thing that comes to my mind is it is fun. I don’t think I could be a teacher who could torture her students with silence in her class (I just love it when I see them smiling and speaking) as long as it goes as I planed so I like things in the fun way and second life gives me this chance as I could ask all my students to meet up in a place I prepared especially for them where I could have them listen as I teach, work in groups, have them use the internet and learn at the same time while they are learning. It’s just great for this technology era and a great way to have many things done outside the class while you get more time in class (I always have this time problem). They¬†could also practice speaking with other players and I could even get them to do little presentations while they put their avatar in their place I’m sure it woud be less stressful.

PREZI

Prezi is a great way to make presentations. It is interesting as it uses the advantage of visuals and many other tools such as zooming in and out as you proceed with the next slayt. You can embed youtube videos, pictures, graphics and etc. It has many fronts and colors to use for your interest as well. Theonly negative thing about it is that we need an internet connection to save or edit the presentation and it may give problems to even do these if you have a bad connection.

2 D’s for different storage uses

Delicious is a kind of bookmark. We use them a lot on our journey through the internet for instences I love to palce a site in my favorites so that I could go back when ever I want. I do this a lot when I like how the site looks but I’m just too lazy to read it at the time. Actually we didn’t use Delicious for these reasons but it could be. You get to store all these favorites and share them with anyone you want so you get to view the shared ones by others as well. The best thing about Delicious is that you can view these in any internet connected device you want. Dropbox has the same function as well. You get a storage limit but you could expand it if you are willing to pay or invite new users. I use Dropbox a lot nearly everything I save is in it. It is in my computer and my smartphone. I could even share my folders as I like. They are both very useful and easy to use.

Ways to make evaluation fun

Socrative is a site where as a teacher you can form quizes for you students. After forming a certain number of questions you are given a room number this way you could use different rooms for different classess. You can also save the quiz for later so you could use it again. You also have an opportunity of following each student as they take the quiz and you could give feedback. The other thing we learned was how to use QR codes. We were told to make a worksheet using a QR code. It was very fun, this is the best thing I learned so far. Every students has a smartphone or has a close relative that has one, and they really love to use them.Image

WWW Classrooms

We were introduced to 2 new learning environments one called Edmodo another called PBworks. We are currently using Edmodo and I have used it before as well. Actually, I did not find it useful last year, but I think after I have gotten used to it or the fact that someone taught me how to use it this time made me change my mind. It is very easy to use and fun at the same time. You can give out or¬†recieve homework from your students, you could also chat with them give out scores and do many other things as well. PB works is nearly the same but of course different. It is much more useful if you want to work on something as a group. You can share your work and even open the editting to various users. It’s quite interesting if you are curious to see everyones point of view and the outcome of various minds. I loved them both and would love to introduce them to my future students to use.
